My son, Quinn, 21, off alone with a backpack, left me voice-mail...

“Hi Mom…wanted to let you know I’m heading into Yosemite today…be out Thursday sometime… Call when I’m out. Love you…”

I feel so grateful he has come to love and appreciate the natural world, but there are days I wonder if I raised him to be a little to ruggedly independent…he’ll be fine-right!

Hopefully, he checked in with the ranger and gratefully, he usually waits to share sordid details until it’s way too late…like avalanches, cliff-diving adventures in Southern France…the kind of details I do appreciate learning about after the fact.

And now my own appreciation of the natural world is being recorded with my i-phone!

My recent poem post came to me in the middle of the night, I got up, turned on the light, wrote it quickly in my journal, then promptly went back to sleep and forgot all about it. I don’t know where poetry is birthed from, or even what this poem means, but this week of my 52nd birthday has me thinking thoughts of birth and rebirth. Perhaps it will mean something to you.
